The NHS in Kent and Medway has confirmed two more appointments to the new integrated care board, which is being created to drive more integration across health and care for the benefit of local people.
The NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) will replace the NHS clinical commissioning group in July 2022. The ICB will be known as NHS Kent and Medway.
Kate Langford will be Chief Medical Officer and Ivor Duffy will be Chief Finance Officer.
Kate is Medical Director for Systems Improvement and Professional Standards at NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSEI). Kate is an obstetrician by background and trained in hospitals in Kent and London before becoming a consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust from 2001 to 2019. She was clinical chair of the Local Maternity System in south east London and a CCG governing body member in north east London. Kate is an experienced systems level leader having been medical director for the Centre for Workforce Intelligence. Kate has been supporting the system in Kent and Medway as part of her NHSEI role.
Ivor is Director of Finance at NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group. He has extensive experience of the NHS in Kent and Medway having joined East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust in 1999. Since then he has worked at the local primary care trust and clinical commissioning groups. He also has worked at NHS England as Director of Assurance and Delivery for Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
Paul Bentley, Chief Executive-designate of NHS Kent and Medway, said: “These are important appointments to make sure we have both clinical and financial leadership on the board. Both elements are essential as we aim to maximise how we support the health and wellbeing of 1.9million people across Kent and Medway with an annual budget of £3.5 billion."
Cedi Frederick, Chair-designate of NHS Kent and Medway, said: “Kate and Ivor were appointed through national recruitment with a two-day selection process. Their experience and commitment to leading the improvements we want to see across the Kent and Medway system really shone through.”
Kate said: “I am delighted to be joining the Kent and Medway team. I see partnership working as the way forward in delivering better care for people using our services and better health for our population as a whole. I am looking forward to meeting new colleagues and building relationships across the system.”
Ivor said: “It is really exciting to be part of a leadership team that wants to shape and improve health services and outcomes for the benefit of people across Kent and Medway. I am also looking forward to the greater opportunity this new role brings for working across organisational boundaries in health, social care and the third sector.”
Kate and Ivor join five non-executive director appointments made in February. A chief nursing officer will be confirmed in April/May, followed by partner members to represent primary care, community healthcare, mental health, hospital services and local councils.
