More than 320 people took advantage of a health and wellbeing bus during its first week of business in Asda car park in Strood.

Downstairs, you can get a Covid-19 vaccine, while upstairs nurses are offering health  check-ups including BMI, blood checks for diabetes and blood pressure readings.

Covid jab Mark Theobald.jpg65-year-old Mark Theobald who lives in Strood received his Covid-19 booster jab on the bus.

Mark, pictured, said: “I received a reminder to have the booster a few months ago but never got around to booking an appointment, so to be able to have the vaccine here today was easy.”

Business owner Sade Aboderin, 42, decided to hop on board for a diabetes check.

She said: “I was told I was pre-diabetic six months ago, so I want to know if all the changes I have made are making a difference to my health.

‘Great idea’

“This bus is a great idea; it’s very convenient especially for busy people. I spotted it as I drove through town, and I wanted a health check, so this is amazing for me.”

Also taking advantage of the health checks was 30-year-old Kriss White from Herne Bay, who works in Strood. He said: “I’m concerned about diabetes because I have previously been told I am pre-diabetic.

‘Convenient’

“I’m pleased to have received a clean bill of health today and at a time and location very convenient for me. This bus is a great idea.”

Trained NHS staff working on the bus will also be able to advise on how to be healthier and fitter in 2023 and make recommendations to people on how to stop smoking, reduce alcohol and find cancer support services.
