One million boosters and counting

10 January 2022

Thank you to every person in Kent and Medway who has been boosted with the Covid-19 vaccine. You have helped us reach the milestone of one million boosters being given in the county in a just a few short weeks.

More than 80 per cent of the eligible population in Kent and Medway (1,010,411 people) have now had their booster vaccination and work continues to encourage those still to come forward to have their first, second or booster vaccination.

NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) Clinical Chair Dr Navin Kumta said: “This is an incredible achievement in such a short amount of time and plays a huge part in protecting ourselves and those we love from having Covid-19.

“Thank you to everyone who has come forward for their booster vaccination and for those who have yet to have their first, second or booster – it’s not too late to have yours.

“I would like to pay a particular tribute to the hundreds of NHS staff and volunteers who have made this programme the success it is in Kent and Medway; they have worked tirelessly for a year to deliver millions of vaccines and, although exhausted, stepped up a gear to make sure the boosters were given as a matter of urgency.’’

There are many places in Kent and Medway where you can be vaccinated – bookable appointments are available on the national booking service and you can also go to a walk-in site without an appointment.

Navin added: “It’s really important to come forward and have your vaccination – whether that is your first, second or booster vaccine; we are still keen to support anyone who wants to have their first or second vaccination.’’

Please remember, you can be vaccinated 28 days after having Covid-19, so can book your appointment in advance so you don’t forget to be boosted.

For anyone under 18, it needs to be 12 weeks between a second dose and booster; it also should be 12 weeks after having Covid before a vaccination.
