Cedi Frederick has been appointed as Chair-designate of the new Kent and Medway NHS Integrated Care Board; due to be established in April 2022.
The Integrated Care Board is part of new arrangements to improve joint working across the NHS, local authorities and a wide range of other local partners; to improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.
Cedi is one of five new Chairs-designates to be appointed to these new roles across the South East region; which will lead the development of greater joint working to improve the health and wellbeing of local people. He has been appointed following a comprehensive recruitment process, led by NHS England and NHS Improvement and endorsed by the Secretary of State.
Welcoming Cedi to his new role, John Goulston, the interim Chair of Kent and Medway’s Integrated Care System, said:
“Cedi has a wealth of experience in roles across housing, education and health which brings an understanding and perspective that will be essential for the role. It is a fantastic appointment which confirms our ambition to take joint working across the NHS and wider services that affect people’s health and wellbeing to the next level.”
Commenting on his appointment, Cedi said:
“I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed as Chair-designate of Kent and Medway’s Integrated Care Board. Having previously worked in Kent and Medway for almost six years, I am excited to renew my relationship with the area and to begin working with colleagues across health, social care and our many other partners to improve the health and wellbeing of local people.”
Welcoming the appointment of ICB chairs across South East England, Anne Eden, Regional Director of NHS England and NHS Improvement said:
“Cedi will have a hugely important role and has been appointed following a robust process where he was among some excellent candidates. He and others will drive improved services for patients and better population health, and deliver long-term local strategies and priorities into next year and beyond including the vaccine roll-out, elective recovery and addressing health inequalities.”
Cedi has held a number of NHS appointments as part of a 30-year career as a non-executive director in various organisations. His current NHS appointment is Chair of North Middlesex NHS Trust which he leaves at the end of October. He has also been a non-executive director at Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Barnet Enfield and Haringey NHS Trust.
Other non-executive roles include various housing associations, St Johns Ambulance, as a Governor (2009-2017) at Canterbury Christchurch University and a Board member of Basketball England.
His professional career includes senior management roles in local authority housing, housing associations and a national social care provider, plus chief executive roles in a mental health charity and Kent based social care provider.
In 2020, Cedi was asked to Co-Chair the national BAME advisory committee for the Social care sector which reports into Ministers and he is also the Co-Chair of the Social Care Workforce and Race Equality Standards Committee.
