Wanting to keep her family safe is the main reason 15-year-old Abbie booked into a local clinic and was vaccinated against Covid-19.
Brother and sister Abbie and Jaydon were at the Saga Centre, Ramsgate, with their parents Tasha and Wesley. The family, also from Ramsgate, have now all been vaccinated; they saw first-hand how ill Covid-19 can make you after Wesley’s dad contracted the virus several months ago.
Wesley said: “We thought we were going to lose him; he nearly died. It was a horrible time. And then Tasha’s sister has had it too and was really poorly. We just want to do our part to keep people safe and to make sure the pandemic comes to an end.’’
The vaccination programme for 12 to 15-year-olds in Kent and Medway is being delivered in schools by the School-aged Immunisation Service.
Some GP and pharmacy-led clinics are also offering vaccination clinics, which can be booked via the national booking system, if your child missed their jab at school or you don’t want to wait for the school clinic.
Jaydon, 13, is keen to go on holiday and believes that having the vaccine will make it safer for the family to do so and be far less at risk of having Covid-19.
Abbie, 15, said: “Lots of people we know were having it and I decided to because I really don’t want to pick up the virus and bring it home to my family.’’
Mum Tasha said: “We gave them the option, the choice of whether they wanted to have the vaccine or not and they have both decided to.’’
