People who are eligible for the spring Covid-19 booster have started to receive invitations to be vaccinated from the NHS.
The spring booster will provide additional protection for those most at risk from experiencing severe symptoms from the virus. The spring booster will be offered to:
- adults aged 75 years and over
- residents in care homes for older adults
- individuals aged 12 years and over who have a weakened immune system.
Covid-19 is more serious in those who are older and with weakened immune systems. Protection from the virus may be lower and decline more quickly in these people so it’s important they have this booster.
Anyone eligible will be contacted to make a booster appointment or go to a walk-in clinic. Please do not contact your GP; wait for your invitation.
People with the greatest clinical need will be prioritised, starting with those with the longest gap since their last dose. Everyone eligible will be offered a top-up during the spring and early summer.
Dr Navin Kumta, Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group, Clinical Chair said, “Although Covid-19 restrictions have eased, the virus hasn’t gone away. It’s as important now as it was at the start of the pandemic that everyone who is eligible has the vaccine to keep them safe. The protection the vaccine provides reduces over time, so it’s really important to take up this offer.”
Evergreen primary and booster offer
If you haven’t yet come forward for your first, second or booster dose, you can still do so at a time and place that is convenient for you.
Covid-19 is still around, and the vaccine offers the best protection against becoming seriously unwell, staying out of hospital and passing the virus on to others.
There are plenty of walk-in options in every part of the county for people to have their booster. People can find their nearest centre or book an appointment at www.nhs.uk/covid-booster or by calling 119 (translators are available on request). More information and locations of walk-in clinics can be found at www.kentandmedwayccg.nhs.uk/covid19vaccine.
If you have recently recovered from Covid-19, you should still come forward for your vaccination - having had the virus does not give the same level of protection.
Anyone aged 18 and over who has had Covid, needs to wait four weeks before having any dose of the vaccine. It’s 12 weeks for people aged 12 to 17.
