Celebrating our cancer clinical nurse specialists

Cancer clinical nurse specialists provide dedicated care to cancer patients when they need it most. 

To mark the first national cancer clinical nurse specialist day (Wednesday, 15 March), NHS trusts across Kent and Medway have been shining a light on the role of the CNS and sharing their inspiring stories. 

Cancer clinical nurse specialists at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust took the time to speak to visitors on Wednesday in the hospital foyer (pictured above). 

This is the first #NationalCancerCNSDay and our hospitals are proud to be sharing stories about this incredible workforce, often referred to as a lifeline for patients and their families. 

Kent and Medway Cancer Alliance Programme Lead Claire Mallett said: “Cancer clinical nurse specialists (CNS) play a vital role in delivering passionate care following a cancer diagnosis. CNS provide specialist clinical expertise, information and advice tailored to individual patient needs and their loved ones, improving experience of care at a time of vulnerability.”

Supporting patients

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust has 70 cancer clinical nurse specialists who providing outstanding care to patients every day. Clinical nurse specialists Gaynor, Sanghajit and Rudo talk about how they help take the fear out of a patient’s diagnosis and treatment.

Dream job for Abbi

Clinical nurse specialist Abbi Smith works at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. She gave up a career in fashion to work as a CNS and doesn’t regret it for a second.

Rewarding role

The fantastic work of cancer clinical nurse specialists working at Medway hospital were highlighted on the Medway NHS Foundation Trust Twitter account throughout #NationalCancerCNS day.
