Transforming acute mental health services for adults in Kent and Medway
Across Kent and Medway, commissioners and providers are working together to transform acute mental health services for adults so that the right support is available for those who need it - this may be as an inpatient in a hospital, at home or in the community. The important thing is that people can get the right care and support in the best way for them, when they need it.
Our continued focus for 2021/22 was to look at:
- making best use of the beds we have available in our mental health wards
- improving the safety and quality of mental health wards, making sure they meet best practice standards for different people with a variety of mental health needs and conditions
- improving crisis care for people who are acutely unwell and/or may need to be taken to a place of safety
- providing more intensive support and care for people with more severe mental health problems at home and in the community.
Involving local people
We worked with our partners to reach out to people using mental health services, their carers, family members and loved ones to hear their views on current services and what they would like from future mental health services in Kent and Medway..
We also carried out a range of engagement activities including virtual (online) workshops and individual telephone interviews.
You can find out more about what we heard in this report.
As a result of the feedback and work, we ran a formal public consultation about dormitory style beds. Find out more about the consultation.
